How Dropzy works
Dropzy moves files and text between any devices — phone, PC, iPhone, Android, Mac or tablet — right in the browser. No app, no cable, no account. On the same Wi-Fi it just works; on different networks, share a link, a QR code or a 6-digit code. Everything deletes itself.
1. Open Dropzy on both devices
On the same Wi-Fi, they find each other by themselves. On different networks, start a Private Share or a Room and scan the QR code.
2. Add files or text
Drag and drop, tap Choose files, or paste a screenshot. Type or paste text and press Share.
3. Grab them on the other device
They show up instantly. Download, copy or save — and everything deletes itself when time runs out.
Sent directly
When the other device is open, files usually go straight from one browser to the other. They are never uploaded, there is no fixed size limit, and you will see the speed as it goes.
Uploaded for a while
If the other device isn’t there yet — or you’re in a Room — files are uploaded (up to 2 GB each) so they can be picked up later, then deleted automatically. If a direct connection fails, Dropzy uploads by itself.

What is Dropzy?
Dropzy is a free website for moving files and text between your devices — phone to PC, iPhone to Windows, Android to Mac. There is nothing to install and no account to make. Everything you share deletes itself.
Is it really free?
Yes. There are no paid plans and no sign-up. Dropzy runs on free hosting tiers and keeps things lean so it can stay free.
What is the difference between “sent directly” and “uploaded”?
When the other device is open at the same time, files usually go straight from one browser to the other and are never uploaded anywhere. When that is not possible — or in a Room, where people may join later — the file is uploaded for a few hours and then deleted automatically.
How big can files be?
Files sent directly have no fixed limit; it depends on free space on the receiving device (about 1 GB in iPhone and iPad browsers). Uploaded files can be up to 2 GB each.
How long do things last?
On Wi-Fi Share each item lasts 2 hours after it is added. A Private Share lasts 2 hours and can be extended up to 6 hours. A Room lasts 24 hours and can be extended up to 48 hours. When time runs out, everything in it is deleted.
Is it encrypted?
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Private Share is also end-to-end encrypted: the key lives in the link, so our servers never see file names, types or contents — only sizes and times.
Who can see what I share on Wi-Fi Share?
Everyone on the same network who opens Dropzy. That is great at home, but on a shared network use a Private Share. On very busy networks Dropzy hides other people’s items automatically; you can still find one by its 4-character code.
My other device isn’t showing up. What now?
VPNs, iCloud Private Relay or a phone on mobile data can put your devices on different networks. Use the Connect a device card: scan its QR code, or tap Join on the other device and enter the 6-digit code. On different networks, a Private Share always works.
Can I send a file to just one device?
Yes. Open Nearby on both devices. Everyone on the same Wi-Fi with that page open shows up by name; tap one and the files go straight to it, browser to browser.
Do I need an account?
No. There are no accounts and no cookies. Your device shows up under a name built from your browser, like “Chrome on Windows” or “iPhone”, which you can change.
What is stored, and when is it deleted?
Uploaded files and shared text are kept only until they expire, then deleted automatically, along with their records. We never store IP addresses — only a scrambled version used to group devices on the same network and to stop abuse.
